Our Ofsted Reports

Aspire Active Camps are one of the only expert sports and physical activity based childcare providers who are registered on the voluntary part of the Ofsted Childcare Register.

By being on the voluntary childcare register it proves that we have certain policies and procedures in place and are committed to the safeguarding of your child. In essence, we believe that all children and parents have the right to access provision that is Ofsted registered.

The following information provides a few facts about the voluntary childcare register, the requirements we have to meet and the benefits for you as a parent and us as a provider.

What is the childcare register?

The Childcare Act of 2006 introduced a Childcare Register with 2 parts: A compulsory part; and a Voluntary part. The voluntary part of this register started in April 2007. Ofsted is responsible for the registration and inspection of all provision on this register.

What are the requirements of the voluntary register?

Aspire Active Camps must ensure:
  • The childcare is provided for at least 2 hours a day
  • All staff with unsupervised access to children undergo a check with the Criminal Records Bureau
  • Staff, premises, equipment and care provision must be safe and suitable
  • At least 1 staff member who is caring for children has an appropriate first aid certificate, and 1 member of staff has appropriate training covering the common core skills
  • We hold public liability insurance

What training and qualifications do our staff require?

Our staff are qualified to deliver a vast range of sports and activities, which is not an Ofsted requirement.

First aid
We must ensure that at least one member of staff on the premises has a first aid qualification which is appropriate to the ages of the children for whom childcare is provided and to the nature of the provision. This first aid provision must be available at all times while people are on the childcare premises. It is our responsibility to ensure these requirements are met.

Common core of skills and knowledge for the children's workforce
At least one member of staff on the premises must have successfully completed training in the core skills as set out in the document 'Common core of skills and knowledge for the children's workforce'.

The common core of skills and knowledge, generally referred to as the common core, reflects a set of common values for people who work with children and young people, that promote equality, respect diversity and challenge stereotypes, helping to improve the life chances of all children and young people and to provide more effective integrated services.

There are 5 areas that constitute the common core:

  • Effective communication and engagement
  • Child and young person development
  • Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the child
  • Supporting transition
  • Integrated working and sharing information

More information about common core skills can be found on the Every Child Matters website.
