Recruitment and experience
Active Camp staff comprise of specialist sports coaches and qualified teachers, with previous experience of working in primary/ secondary schools. All staff are recruited following a rigorous selection process where they attend a formal interview and are observed leading a practical session.
All staff hold relevant qualifications and are trained to the highest standards. Each member holds an enhanced CRB and follows the Companies Code of Conduct, Child Protection and Behaviour policies.
Child protection and anti bullying
Aspire Active Camps Ltd believe that it is always unacceptable for a child or young person to experience abuse of any kind and recognises its responsibility to safeguard the welfare of all children and young people, by a commitment to practice which protects them.
We recognise that:
- the welfare of the child/young person is paramount
- all children regardless of age, disability, gender, racial heritage, religious belief, sexual orientation or identity have the right to equal protection from all types of harm or abuse
- working in partnership with children, young people, their parents, carers and other agencies is essential in promoting young people’s welfare.
The purpose of the policy:
- To provide protection for the children and young people who receive Aspire Active Camps Ltd services, including the children of adult members or users.
- To provide staff and volunteers with guidance on procedures they should adopt in the event that they suspect a child or young person may be experiencing, or be at risk of, harm.
Staff Code of Conduct
Aspire Active Camps Ltdsupports and requires all employees to observe standards of practice, including verbal and non-verbal actions when in involved in activities with children.
All concerns about breach of this Code of Conduct will be taken seriously and responded to in line with Aspire Active Camps Ltd Complaints Policy, Disciplinary Procedure and/or Procedure for Responding to Concerns about Child Abuse.
A Code of Conduct has a number of important functions. It:
- sets out what behaviour is acceptable and unacceptable
- defines standards of practice expected from those to whom it applies
- forms the basis for challenging and improving practice
- helps to safeguard staff by encouraging them to adhere to agreed standards of practice
- sets out for children and parents the standards of practice which they and the organisation should expect from those who work/volunteer with children
Health and Safety
At every Active Camp your child’s health and safety is paramount to us. Your child will be grouped according to their age range. To ensure quality and safety, the following coach/ children ratios are implemented:

Aspire Active Camps Ltd continually works towards the prevention of occupational injury and ill health to all involved in or affected by the company’s activities. We aim to ensure that those using premises are not subjected to unacceptable risk.
Our objectives are to develop and maintain a proactive health and safety culture and set standards for continuous improvements in matters of health and safety.
Risk assessments are carried out and regularly monitored on all venues and activities.
Insurance
Aspire Active Camps Ltd have public liability and employer’s liability insurance cover. A copy of our certificate can be found at the venue.
Medical
We are required to keep a record of any medication administered to children whilst on the camp. You must inform us clearly if medication is required to be given. We are only able to administer prescribed medication e.g. inhaler or antibiotics. The Parent/Carer needs to sign the form giving his/her permission for a staff member to administer the medicine.
Children will be asked to apply their own sun cream.
Sick Child
If your child has being suffering with an illness please allow upto 48 hours before sending your child to an active camp. If your child is taken ill during an active camp our first priority will be to take care of your child and contact you.
Accident and Emergency
All minor incidents/ accidents will be dealt with by First Aid trained staff. If your child is involved in an incident/ accident they will be given a sticker. Please speak to the Active Camps Co-ordinator as we require all incidents/ accident report forms to be signed by the parent on collection of your child to ensure you are informed of any incident that has occurred.
If a serious accident occurs the parents/ guardians will be contacted immediately.
Registration
All children will need to be signed in and out by a parent/ guardian. Please inform the Active Camps Co-ordinator if your child will be collected by another adult or if you are collecting your child before the pre-booked pick up time. This is important as sign out is not available under normal circumstances until 15 minutes prior to pick up time.
Uncollected Children
Parents are advised to contact the Active Camps Co-ordinator if they are going to be late picking up their child. At least two adults will remain with your child until you arrive. No child will be allowed to walk home or leave with another parent unless we have your permission in writing.
If your child is collected late on more than one occasion a charge will be incurred (see terms and conditions).
Complaints
Active Camps Ltd believes that children and parents are entitled to expect courtesy and prompt, careful attention to their needs and wishes. We welcome suggestions on how to improve our services and will give prompt and serious attention to any concerns about the running of our business. We anticipate that most concerns will be resolved quickly by an informal approach to the appropriate member of staff. It this does not achieve the desired result; we have a set of procedures for dealing with concerns.
